2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Battery Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix Battery Cables on 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Start by opening the car hood, pulling out the battery and removing its tray, after that, unbolt the negative cable from its mounting point on the engine. Take out the grade negative cable from both the engine compartment and the vehicle. Once you have the positive cable in place, attach the negative cable under the car in the engine compartment, put the retaining bolt on the transmission and secure it to the inner left fender. Set the battery back in its tray, reinstall the tray, close the hood and ensure everything about the vehicle and its systems works correctly. First, raise the vehicle on a hoist, open the hood, take out the battery and remove the battery tray for the positive battery cable. Lift the Power Distribution Center cover and undo the two 10 mm nuts holding the positive battery cable to the PDC. After that, remove the tape on the plastic fastener that secures the cable near the transmission. Hoist the car again, undo one bolt on the transmission cooler line connecting it to its support and unfasten the positive battery cable from the start solenoid nut before you take the cable out of the engine compartment and car. To install, guide the positive battery cable back into the engine compartment, bolt it onto the starter solenoid with the retaining nut, install the bolt for the transmission cooler line, lower the car, fix the tape to the plastic fastener near the transmission and bolt the positive battery cable to the PDC with the two 10 mm nuts. Clamp down the Power Distribution Center cover, make sure the battery box is properly closed and fit the battery. Then lower the hood, run some tests and lift the vehicle off the hoist.
