2001 Chrysler Town & Country Blend Door Actuator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Rear Blend Door Actuator on 2001 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: Before beginning to service and repair, first disconnect the negative cable from the rear-mounted battery. Get rid of the right quarter trim panel and right D-pillar trim panel found on the quarter inner panel. After that, take out the two top screws holding the quarter trim panel attaching bracket to the quarter inner panel, one back screw holding the rear heater-A/C unit housing to the right D-pillar and one front screw holding the rear heater-A/C unit to the right quarter inner panel. Pull up on the top edge of the rear heater-A/C panel near the right quarter inner panel to remove the cover and reach the mode door actuator. Take the two screws out holding the mode door actuator to the rear heater-A/C unit housing and pull the actuator away until its output shaft is clear of the mode door linkage. Raise the actuator and remove the rear HVAC wire harness connector from the actuator connector receptacle. Then take out the mode door actuator from between the quarter inner panel and the heater-A/C housing. Place the mode door actuator between the rear heater-A/C unit housing and the quarter inner panel, attach the rear HVAC connector and line up the splines in the actuator output shaft with those in the mode door linkage if required. Fit the two screws into the actuator, tighten them to 2 Nm and then press the top of the heater-A/C unit housing into the right quarter inner panel. Secure the screw at the front of the rear heater-A/C unit housing to the right outer quarter panel, tightening it to 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.). Then secure the back of the housing to the pillar on the right side using another screw, again to 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.). Clip and tighten the two screws joining the top of the quarter trim panel attaching bracket to the quarter inner panel to 1.7 Nm (15 in. lbs.). Lastly, install the right quarter trim panel and right D-pillar trim panel over the quarter inner panel. Reattach the battery negative cable last and then do the heater-A/C control calibration as described earlier.
