2001 Chrysler Town & Country A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Expansion Valve in the Rear on 2001 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: The first step to servicing or repairing the rear expansion valve is to take out the rear heater-A/C unit housing. Carefully remove the foam around the rear expansion valve and then remove the rear evaporator line extension from it. In case your car has ATC, unplug the expansion valve solenoid pigtail wire connector from the rear HVAC wire harness connector. After that, undo the two screws holding the expansion valve to the sealing plate and remove the valve from inside the evaporator tubes. Get rid of the seals on the evaporator tubes and cover up both fittings and the two ports on the expansion valve with plugs or tape. For installation, remove the tape or plugs from the tube end sections and both expansion valve ports, lubricate new O-rings with clean oil and set the rings on the tube fittings. Place the expansion valve on the evaporator tubes and close and tighten the two screws to 11 Nm (97 in. lbs.). Should the ATC system be present, tie the expansion valve solenoid pigtail wire back to the rear HVAC wire harness. First, put on the extension line from the rear evaporator unit onto the expansion valve, then insulate the rear expansion valve and lastly, slip the rear heater-A/C housing back into the vehicle.
