2001 Chrysler Town & Country Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair the Right Exhaust Manifold on 2001 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: To fix the correct exhaust manifold, first take off the negative terminal from the battery and disconnect the wiper module. After that, pull off the spark plug wires and loosen the bolts securing the crossover pipe to the exhaust manifold. Unplug and disconnect the upstream oxygen sensor and afterward loosen and take out all the screws that hold the upper heat shield in place. Raise the car or truck on a hoist, take off the drive belt shield and then free the lower bolt from the power steering pump support strut. Remove both the downstream oxygen sensor and the catalytic converter pipe from their connection with the exhaust manifold. Ease down the car and remove the upper nut from the power steering pump support strut. Take out the mounting bolts and remove the exhaust manifold. Look over and clean the manifold, get rid of the gasket and clean every surface of the manifold and the cylinder head. Check the exhaust manifolds for wear or damage, measure the flatness of the cylinder head mounting and exhaust crossover mounting surfaces using a straightedge and thickness gauge and verify that the limits of flatness are not exceeding 1.0 mm (0.039 inch). For instructions on how to install, secure the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head and add bolts to the center runner for cylinder #3, just initially tightening them with 2.8 Nm (25 inch lbs.) of torque. Attach the crossover pipe to the exhaust manifold, tighten all bolts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.), check the pipes for heat or corrosion damage and replace them with OEM bolts when necessary. Attach the rest of the manifold anchoring bolts and tighten each to 23 Nm (200 inch lbs.). Position the power steering pump support strut and install the upper bolt and after that install the heat shield and connecting screws. Put in the upstream oxygen sensor, lift the vehicle, attach the pipe from the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold by adding a gasket and tighten the bolts to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.). Attach the downstream oxygen sensor connector, tighten the bolt holding the power steering pump support strut, fit the splash shield around the belt, lower the car, put the wiper module into place and finish by reconnecting the battery negative cable.
