2001 Chrysler Town & Country Harmonic Balancer Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Harmonic Balancer and Crankshaft Pulley on 2001 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: When servicing or repairing the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley, remove the negative battery cable and lift up the vehicle on a hoist. First, remove the right front wheel and the inner splash shield. Then, come back to take off the accessory drive belt. After that, take out the bolt for the vibration damper and place Special Tool 8450 into the crankshaft nose. Place Special Tool 1026 over the damper and rotate the puller forcing screw until the damper releases, letting you remove the crankshaft vibration damper. During installation, use lubricated Special Tool 8451 and apply the forcing screw firmly while it is lubricated to avoid friction and keep the tool in good condition. Place the vibration damper on the crankshaft, fasten Special Tool 8451 using the bolt and tighten the nut until the entire damper is secure. After removing Special Tool 8451, attach the accessory drive belt, slide the splash shield in place and put the right front wheel back on. Reset the negative cable to the battery.
