How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2001 Chrysler Town & Country?

Before servicing or replacing the crankshaft main bearing seal, take out the transaxle and the flex plate. Take a 3/16 flat bladed pry tool and insert it between the dust lip and the metal part of the crankshaft seal, letting the pry tool bend through the dust lip to move out the seal, ensuring you do not touch the seal with the tool, but can contact the chamfered edge of the crankshaft. Any small burrs or scratches on the chamfer should be cleaned using 400 grit sandpaper, to protect the new seal as it is installed. After that, attach Special Tool 6926-1 magnetic pilot tool to the crankshaft, then put the seal over Special Tool 6926-1 Pilot. Drive the seal into the retainer housing with Special Tool 6926-2 Installer and C-4171 Handle. Once finished, bolt in the flex plate and the transaxle.
