2001 Chrysler Town & Country Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Maintain and Repair a Shock Absorber on 2001 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: You should first take out the shock absorber before servicing or repairing it. Place the Receiver, Special Tool 8526-1, in the ball joint cup of the Ball Joint Press, Special Tool C-4212F and tighten the adjusting set screw. Screw the Driver, Special Tool 8526-2, onto the head of the Ball Joint Press screw drive. It works best to hold the Ball Joint Press in place with a bench vise during this process. Fit the shock absorber upper mounting eye into the Receiver, moving it until the notch is clear of the shock absorber's body. Torque the Screw Drive until the Driver meets the edge of the bushing, then tighten it further so the bushing comes out of the shock absorber's eye and into the Receiver. After you've threaded the screw through the bushing, loosen the screw drive and pull the bushing out of the Receiver. For assembling, reset the Receiver and Driver exactly as you did in the first step. Fit the shock absorber's upper mounting eye into the Receiver, with the notch not touching any part of the Engine and slide the bushing between the shock eye and the Driver. Holding everything together, tighten the screw drive until the shock components touch and slowly press the bushing all the way into the eye until the Driver hits and stops at the face of the eye. Once the Ball Joint Press screw drive is off the shock, simply lift out the shock and put it back onto the vehicle.
