2001 Dodge Caravan Automatic Transmission Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Automatic Transmission Filter for the 41TE Transaxle on 2001 Dodge Caravan?
A: Lift the vehicle on a hoist and put a container under the oil pan before beginning to service and repair the fluid filter for the 41TE transaxle. Loose the bolts holding the pan onto the engine and strike one corner with a hammer to release the fluid, then take off the pan. After installing a new filter and O-ring underneath the valve body, clean both the oil pan and magnet. Place the pan back in place with fresh Mopar Silicone Adhesive sealant and tighten up the bolts to 19 Nm (165 inch lbs.). Pour liquid from one quart bottle of Mopar ATF+4 (Automatic Transmission Fluid), Type 9602, into the dipstick opening. Engage the driver's seat, keep your foot on the gas pedal for a minute and briefly go through all the gear positions, finishing with park or neutral. Check the amount of transaxle fluid and add some until it is almost 3 mm/1/8 inch below the lowest point on the dipstick, then check the level again after the transaxle runs at normal temperatures (180°F.). Guarantee that the dipstick is all the way in so it blocks out debris from going into the transaxle. With the dipstick tube method, check that the transaxle is warm, then attach the suction line of your device into the dipstick tube and position it where the oil is lowest for best results. Eliminate the suction line, then add four quarts of Mopar ATF+4 (Automatic Transmission Fluid) Type 9602 through the dipstick hole, run the engine and monitor the fluid level all while inserting the dipstick deeply.
