The 31TH Automatic Transmission fluid and filter should only be serviced and repaired with Mopar ATF +4 (Automatic Transmission Fluid) Type 9602. Switching the filter should go together with changing the engine oil and when you do this, remember to clean the magnet inside the
Oil Pan with a clean, dry cloth. In case the transaxle is taken apart, replace the fluid and filter. First, lift the vehicle in a hoist and make sure a drain container is placed under the transaxle oil pan. Loose the bolts on the pan and tap a corner to cause the fluid to flow out, then take out the oil pan. With the
Oil Filter-to-valve body screws off, take out both the old filter and the gasket. Put in a new filter and gasket, clean both the bottom of the pan and the magnet and reattach the pan with Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant, applying the bolts at 19 Nm (165 inch lbs.). Add four quarts of Mopar ATF +4 to the engine using the dipstick. Turn on the motor, let it run for a minute or more and then turn it off. With both your parking and service brakes on, flick the selector lever to every spot, stopping in either park or neutral when you're done. Make sure the level of transaxle fluid is between the marks on the dipstick (at least 3 mm or 1/8 inch below the "ADD" mark) and recheck it when your transaxle has warmed up to its normal temperature. Put the dipstick all the way in so that the transaxle remains clean. When using the dipstick tube suction method, wait until the transaxle reaches its operating temperature, select an appropriate suction device, move the suction line into the dipstick tube through to the lowest point inside the transaxle oil pan. After the suction line is off, add four quarts of Mopar ATF +4 through the dipstick hole, start up your engine and watch the level like before, without moving the dipstick.
