2001 Dodge Caravan Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Rear Shock Absorber on 2001 Dodge Caravan?
A: For this step, first raise the vehicle and hold the rear axle on a 2 jackstand set on each outer end of the axle. When the shock absorber lower mounting bolt deflects up, get under the car and lift the support jack to raise the axle; if the bolt moves downward, rest the axle back down on the support apparatus. After that, take out the lower shock absorber bolt and place your hand on the shock absorber as you remove the upper bolt to withdraw it. During setup, attach the shock absorber to the frame rail first, then insert the top mounting bolt, lastly bolting the bottom to the axle. With the support jack out of the way, gently lower the vehicle to check that the suspension is holding its full weight while on the ground. After that, tighten the upper and lower shock absorber bolts to 101 Nm (75 ft. lbs.).
