2001 Dodge Grand Caravan Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Pump on 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: Before starting with the pump service or repairs, disconnect the negative battery cable and separate it from the battery. Pick up the wiper module and raise the car. Start by taking off the splash shield covering the drive belt and then just loosen, but do not remove, the pump bracket thru bolt. Take out the bracket bolt holding the pressure hose, then lower the vehicle. Lose the cap over the fluid tank and use a siphon pump to draw out as much fluid as can be removed. Remove the fluid supply hose along with the pressure hose from the pump. Strip the bolt at the back of the pump, making sure the spacer between the pump and bracket is there, then insert the three front bolts through the pulley. Rock the pump gently through the engine compartment so that it rests on the aluminum bracket. Once again use the removal steps in reverse order to fit the pump back on its bracket. Attach the rear mounting bolt with the spacer in place and install the other mounting bolts. Then tighten all the bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). Before fitting the power steering pressure hose, see if the O-ring shows any damage and replace it if you find any signs of damage. Attach the power steering fluid pressure line to the pump and screw on the fitting tube nut with 31 Nm (275 inch lbs.) of torque. Attach the low-pressure return hose to the pump and be sure the hose clamps are put back on properly. Lift the vehicle again, fit the clip that guides the pressure hose to the engine and tighten the pump thru-bolt to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.). After you're done, put back the serpentine drive belt along with the drive belt splash shield and slowly lower the vehicle. Afterwards, reconnect the negative battery cable, add power steering fluid and bleed the system before spotting leaks.
