2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Van Air Bag Control Module Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service the Air Bag Control Module on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: Before servicing the air bag Control Module, cut the power of the air bags by disconnecting and isolating the battery negative cable and it will wait for the system capacitor to discharge. Because they contain crucial sensors, air bag Control Modules must not be struck, kicked or dropped; if they are struck or dropped, the module has to be replaced. First, take off the molded plastic cover protecting the module, as it is attached to the front floor panel by double-faced acrylic foam tape. After that, slide the red lock of the Connector Position Assurance to the side and then carefully pull the instrument panel wire harness connector from the ACM. Disconnect the three screws that hold the ACM to the mount under the front passenger seat floor and remove the ACM. While attaching ACM, set it in the proper location, ensuring that locator pins are connected and the ACM label arrow points forward. Attach the ACM with the supplied three screws, turning them so that each has torque of 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.) and securely connect the instrument panel wire harness. Get rid of leftovers from the old acrylic foam tape and then push down the new ACM cover on the floor panel to seal it properly. Do not hook up the black battery cable until after you have performed the air bag system verification test.
