2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Van Throttle Cable Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service the throttle cable and linkage on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: Inside the car, remove the plastic cap from the ending of the throttle cable and hold the upper part of the pedal after taking the cable out of the throttle arm. After that, unplug the cable core wire from under the pedal arm. Remove the cable housing housing retainer as you pinch both sides at the dash panel and drag the entire it into the engine area. Cover the engine and air cleaner and operate the throttle body lever by hand until it is wide open. Then, move the cable's end off the pin on the throttle lever and pull it backward. Press down on the release tab at the throttle body mounting bracket with a small screwdriver, moving it just enough to free the cable housing. After that, gently lift the housing straight up off of the bracket. When putting the cable in, first match the cable's end to the lever pin on the throttle body and then link it to the bracket, pressing it down to keep it in place. Insert the other cable housing sleeve into the dash opening and snap it when you hear a click. After that, put the ball end of the cable wire into the hole on the pedal arm and fasten it using the plastic cable retainer, lining up the index slot on the retainer with the index tab on the arm. Before you start the engine, test and operate the throttle and then screw the air cleaner housing and engine cover back into place.
