2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Ignition Coil Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace and Mount an Ignition Coil on 3.9/5.2/5.9L (LDC) Engines on 2001 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: If the ignition coil needs to be replaced, it should always be replaced with an epoxy filled type as well. For 3.9/5.2/5.9L (LDC) engines, the coil is fitted to a bracket and bolted to the cylinder head in front of the right engine, above the automatic belt tensioner bracket using standard bolts. Start by taking off the primary wiring and the secondary spark plug cable from the ignition coil. Because of the tension put on by the accessory drive belt, the bracket-to-cylinder head mounting bolts should not be removed unless all belt tension is first released. When the coil has been disconnected, take it off the coil mount using the two bolts. During installation, affix the ignition coil to its mounting bracket and if you secure it with nuts or bolts, tighten them to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.) If the hole was tapped just for the coil mounting bolts, tighten those to 5 Nm (50 in. lbs.) In the last step, attach all wires to the ignition coil again.
