2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Parking Brake Cable with Rear Disc Brakes on 2001 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: For the rear park brake cable service with rear disc brakes, lift and hold up the vehicle, lock the cable for the rear parking brake and finally remove or slightly loosen the cable adjuster nut. Partially pull out the rear park brake cable, squeeze the fitting to detach it from the bracket on the frame and pull the cable down through the bracket. Draw the cable lever away from the rotor assembly, press the cable tabs facing each fitting at the support bracket and detach the cable from the support. While installing, pass through each cable end into the brake support plate so that the tabs hook onto each side and securely lock the wire in place. Then, feed the cable into the frame bracket and insert the left cylinder end fitting into the hole of the frame bracket. Slide the rear cables over the tensioner rod at the back of the brake assembly, hold the cable to the intermediate cable connection, remove the lockout device, carry out the park brake adjustment and finally remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
