2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Van Drive Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the Drive Shaft on 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Van?
A: Raise the car on safety stands and change the transmission to Neutral, before starting to service or repair the drive or propeller shaft. Make a mark across the axle pinion yoke or companion flange and the propeller shaft or companion yoke to act as a reference during installation. For Dana axles, take out the bolts that secure the universal joint clamps to the pinion yoke and for Corporate axles, remove the bolts that join the companion yoke to the companion flange. Take the slip yoke off the transmission or transfer case output shaft and remove the propeller shaft. First, put the slip yoke onto the output shaft of the transmission or transfer case. Then, bring the installation reference marks on the propeller shaft, companion yoke or pinion yoke into alignment. Place the universal joint onto the pinion yoke of Dana axles and ensure the universal joint strap bolts are tightened to 29 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). Place the companion yoke on the companion flange and tighten the bolts so that the torque reaches 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.) for Corporate axles. Lastly, slowly bring the vehicle down from the ramp.
