2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Cigarette Lighter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Cigarette Lighter on 2001 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: First, disconnect and separate the negative battery cable to work on the cigarette lighter. Either take off the cigar lighter knob and the element or unsnap the protective cap from the base of the power outlet receptacle. Open the receptacle base to find where the rectangular retaining bosses are located. Place the tips of your external snap ring pliers over the retaining bosses, squeeze the pliers and gently pull the base out of the mount by tilting it a little. Slide the base of the receptacle away from the instrument panel so that you can unconnect the wire harness connector from the receptacle base's connector. Take out the mount that was mounted to the instrument panel. When putting in the mount, slide it back into the instrument panel and attach the wire harness connector to the receptacle base. Align the splines on the base connector with the grooves in the mount and then press down until the retaining bosses are all in place. After that, place back the ringer knob and heating element or protective cap, then reattach the battery negative cable.
