2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service a Fuel Rail Assembly on 2001 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Service the fuel rail assembly only after clearing the pressure from the fuel system. Take off the negative terminal from the car's battery first, then remove the air cleaner. Run through the fuel pressure release and afterwards, take out the throttle body from the intake manifold. To remove the A-shaped bracket if you have A/C, lose the three bolts that secure it to the air conditioning compressor and intake manifold. Remove the electrical connector from each injector by pushing the red slider back and then pressing the tab. All factory fuel injection wiring harnesses are tagged with information about the injector position. Disconnect the attachment for the fuel tube from the side of the fuel rail and loosen all remaining bolts. Gently work the fuel lines back and forth and up and down until each injector clears the intake manifold, then carefully remove the fuel rail from the intake with the injectors still attached. Carefully take away the clips fastening the injectors to the fuel rail. Before putting in the injectors, lubricate each O-ring with a bit of engine oil and fix the injectors and clips onto the fuel rail. Put the fuel rail/fuel injector assembly on the intake manifold and manage each injector until it lines up properly without damaging the O-ring. Press down on both fuel rails until the injectors are positioned and then put in the bolt attachments. Attach the electrical wire to the intake manifold air temperature sensor and then plug all the wires from the fuel injectors back in, making sure they snap into place. If the A/C is installed, attach the supporting bracket for it and next install the throttle body, fuel tube and air cleaner. After that, link the battery back to the engine, engage the start button and watch for signs of leaks.
