Dodge Ram 3500 Fuel Rail Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Install a Fuel Rail on a 5.7L Engine on Dodge Ram 3500?
    A:
You must ensure that the Fuel Injectors are ready before you install the fuel rail on a 5.7L engine. After cleaning the fuel injector machined bores in the Intake Manifold, apply a little engine oil to every O-ring on the fuel injectors. Dropping the fuel rail/injector assembly, line the bottom type up with where the injectors are machined in the intake, ensuring the O-rings are not torn during insertion. Highlight, then press on the right side of the fuel rail until the injectors touch their shoulders and repeat for the left side. Fit in all four fuel rail holddown clamps and four mounting bolts, checking to make sure they follow all specifications. Link the electrical connectors to the Throttle Body and then link them to each fuel injector. Tug gently on each connector to confirm each is fastened. Clamp the fuel line latch clip to the fuel rail and attach the fuel line, then securing the air resonator to the throttle body using two bolts and completing it with the flexible Air Duct to the air box. After that, attach the Battery Cable and switch on the engine to examine the area for leaks.
  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Fuel Rail on a 5.7L Engine on Dodge Ram 3500?
    A:
Before beginning service or repair of the fuel rail, make sure all fuel system pressure is released, as it does not go down until the system is vented. Both fuel rails need to be changed as a full assembly and the connector tube, without clamps, should not be split; put no clamps on this tube. Before anything else, take off the rubber cap on the fuel filler tube and then do the pressure release on the fuel system. Loosen the negative Battery Cable, remove the connecting flex tube from the air cleaner housing to the engine and remove the air resonator box at the Throttle Body. After that, push the red slider on every Fuel Injector to the side, compress the tab and unplug the connector from all of them. For easy identification, the injector position is marked on the factory fuel injection wiring harness. Take off all the electrical wires from the throttle body sensors and the fuel supply tube quick connect link at the fuel rail. Take out the four bolts connecting the fuel rails and their holddown clamps. Rock the fuel rail slowly and pull on the left fuel injector until those injectors can exit the machined holes and repeat the process on the other side. Remove the entire fuel rail with the injectors connected from your engine during the last step. If you need to remove the fuel injectors, use the instructions for fuel injector removal.
