2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Van Belt Tensioner Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service the drive belt tensioner on 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Van?
A: The first step for servicing the drive belt tensioner is to take off the accessory drive belt. Take out the wiring and secondary cable from the ignition coil and then remove the coil from the mount with the help of two bolts, without removing the mount from the cylinder head. Then, take out one nut from the mounting bracket to release the tensioner assembly and after that, remove the pulley bolt to separate the pulley from the tensioner. When installing, first connect the pulley and use the pulley bolt to secure it, tightening it to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) torque. Reattach the tensioner assembly to the mounting bracket, insert the indexing tab in the back of the tensioner into the slot on the bracket and tighten the nut to 67 Nm (50 ft. lbs.) torque. Make sure all the wires connect to the ignition coil and tighten the coil mounting bolts so that the coil is not damaged. When using nuts and bolts, apply torque of 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.) to secure the coil to the bracket; for brackets that have been tapped, tighten the bolts to 5 Nm (50 in. lbs.); After that, fit the drive belt and check where the belt indexing marks are.
