2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Van Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the Wheel Bearing on a 9 1/4 rear axle on 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Van?
A: Start the service and repair of the rear axle 9 1/4 by unbolting the axle shaft and using a small pry bar to take out the seal from the other side of the axle tube. The original bearing can be taken out along with the seal and bearing unit tool. After that, use Set 6310 along with Adapter Foot 6310-9 to extract the axle shaft bearing from within the axle tube. The first step is to clean the bore inside the axle tube, so that all traces of old sealer and burrs are gone. Assemble the axle shaft bearing using Installer C-4198 and Handle C-4171 so that the correct part number appears to you and the bearing is fully pressed against the axle tube. Following this, install a new axle seal using Installer C-4076-B and Handle C-4736-1, so that the installer touches the axle tube and gets the correct depth. Before adding the axle shaft, apply some axle lubricant around the edge of the seal and once that is done, assemble the shaft.
