2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Intake Manifold Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service an Intake Manifold on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
A: You must first disconnect the battery negative cable and then take out the air cleaner inlet's hose from the resonator assembly as well as the air cleaner assembly to service the intake manifold. After that, loosen the throttle cable, vehicle speed control cable (If your car has it) and the transmission line pressure cable. Unplug the Throttle Position Sensor, Idle Air Control Motor, Coolant Temperature Sensor from the thermostat housing, the Intake Air Temperature Sensor, both Oxygen Sensors, Crank Position Sensor, all six Fuel Injector Connectors and the Map Sensor and handle the wiring so it's out of the way. Unplug the vac hoses at the manifold, perform the fuel pressure release and take out the fuel line at the fuel rail assembly. After taking off the accessory drive belt and power steering pump from the intake manifold, lift up the vehicle and disconnect the exhaust pipes from the engine exhaust manifolds by lowering it. Remove all the bolts that hold in the intake manifold and exhaust manifold along with the manifolds. If looking at a manifold replacement, bridge all hoses to the brand-new one and position the manifold gasket over the head bolts. Set the exhaust side of the engine onto the cylinder head, screw in fastener Number 3 and finger tighten it and finally set the intake manifold on the cylinder head dowels. Put washers and fasteners 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10 and 11 into place, then put washers and fasteners 6 and 7. The tightening process should be done as follows: Fasteners 1 to 5 get tightened to 33 Nm (24 Ft. lbs.), then Fasteners 6 and 7 to 31 Nm (23 Ft. lbs. and finally), Fasteners 8 through 11 to 33 Nm (24 Ft. lbs.). Reinstall the power steering pump, belt for the accessories and fuel system supply line that runs to the fuel rail assembly. Attach again the electrical cables and vacuum hoses to the places you removed them from. Repeat: Start with the throttle cable, then install the vehicle speed control if equipped and the transmission line pressure line if it's been installed. Then put in the air cleaner assembly and air inlet to the resonator assembly. Raise the vehicle and link the exhaust pipes to the engine exhaust manifold, securing the bolts to 31 Nm (23 Ft. lbs.). When done, lower the vehicle, link the battery cable again and check for leaks after you start the car.
