Before uninstalling the intake manifold, pull out the negative
Battery Cable and take off the connections from the inlet hose and air cleaner assembly that join to the resonator assembly. Then, remove the
Throttle Cable, the vehicle speed control cable (when installed) and the transmission line pressure cable. Break the connection from the
Throttle Position Sensor, Idle Air Control Motor,
Coolant Temperature Sensor at the
Thermostat Housing, Intake Air Temperature Sensor,
Oxygen Sensor, Crank Position Sensor, six Fuel Injector Connectors and the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor and then secure the harness clear of the way. Unconnect the HVAC and Brake Booster vacuum supply hoses at the intake manifold, release the fuel pressure and unconnect the fuel system supply line from the
Fuel Rail assembly. Unhook the belt from the accessory drive and the
Power Steering Pump from the intake manifold and next raise the vehicle to detach the
Exhaust Pipes from the engine's
Exhaust Manifolds. Take out the bolts of the intake manifold and the exhaust manifold and then remove the manifolds as well. If you are replacing the manifold, do not forget to take all the old fittings and use them on the new one. Lay a new gasket for the engine exhaust/intake manifold over the alignment dowels, push the exhaust manifolds onto the cylinder head and tighten bolt Number 3 a little bit by hand. Install the intake manifold on the cylinder head dowels, put washers along with Numbers 1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10 and 11 and just below them set the washers and fasteners Numbers 6 and 7. For Fasteners Numbers 1 through 5, tighten to 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.), for Fasteners Numbers 6 and 7, tighten to 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs. and for Fasteners Numbers 8 through 11, tighten to 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.). Afterwards, place the power steering pump, accessory
Drive Belt and the fuel system supply line to the fuel rail assembly. Rebuild the removal from the intake manifold and secure back all electrical lines. Afterward, put in the throttle cable, vehicle speed control cable (if equipped) and transmission line pressure cable (if equipped) and connect the air cleaner assembly to the hose leading to the resonator assembly. When the vehicle is raised again, attach the exhaust pipes to the engine exhaust manifolds, securing the bolts with 31 Nm (23 ft. lbs.) of torque, then lower the car, reattach the negative battery cable and run the engine to check for leaks.
