2002 Chrysler 300M CV Boot Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Replace a CV Boot on 2002 Chrysler 300M?
A: First, take out the halfshaft assembly before replacing the outer CV boot. Separate both clamps that secure the boot to the housing and shaft respectively. Once on the outside ends, slide the sealing boot down the connecting shaft, then off the outer end of the joint housing. After washing the CV joint assembly and the interconnecting joint, observe if these parts are very worn out; if any part is damaged, the whole halfshaft must be removed and changed, as its individual parts can't be replaced. First, put the new seal boot on the interconnecting shaft and next, slide the replacement outer CV joint assembly sealing boot over it. You should insert the interconnecting shaft into the outer CV joint until you hear it lock in place and the retaining snap ring snaps onto its groove. Apply about half of the grease from the package to the CV joint's outer assembly and put the other half into the seal boot. After that, install the outer CV joint seal boot retaining clamp so that you can only see the very thinest groove on the interconnecting shaft. Clamp the sealing boot onto the interconnecting shaft using the Crimper, Special Tool C-4975, so that the boot does not become dimpled, overstretched or deformed; if the boot does not look right, correct it by hand. Set the boot for the outer CV joint seal into the retaining groove on the outer CV joint housing and put the clamp on the boot evenly from both ends. Clamp the sealing boot to the outer CV joint housing using Special Tool C-4975, as usual. Lastly, place the driveshaft you replaced on the vehicle again.
