- Q: How to Replace a CV Boot on the Inner Tripod Joint on Chrysler 300M?A:Before installing a new boot for the inner tripod joint, first lift out the driveshaft assemblies from the car and support both ends to avoid any harm. Start by removing the big boot clamp around the tripod housing and the smaller clamp on the shaft and then pull the boot off the tripod and down the shaft. Make sure the rollers don't drop by holding them when the spider joint is being removed from the tripod housing. Then, take out the interconnecting shaft and spider assembly from the tripod joint housing, remove the snap ring from the spider assembly and if it's stuck, hit the end of the spider with a brass drift to help it come out. Check and clean the spider assembly, tripod joint housing and interconnecting shaft for too much wear. If any component shows wear, the assembly must be replaced. Search the seal boot retaining clamp onto the shaft, then slip the replacement boot onto the shaft so only the smallest serration is showing. Attach the spider onto the interconnecting shaft, so that it is far from the end, allowing the retaining snap ring to go in properly. Apply half of the grease from the kit inside the tripod housing and use the rest inside the rubber boot. Insert most of the tripod joint assembly and the shaft into the other half of the tripod joint, then attach the rubber boot right below the top of the shaft with Crimper, C-4975. Place the sealing boot inside the tripod housing groove, fit the seal boot retaining clamp in place and use the crimping tool to secure all three. Place the driveshaft again within the vehicle.
