2002 Chrysler 300M Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Power Steering Pump on 2002 Chrysler 300M?
A: The first step to working on the power steering pump is to take off the battery ground cable from the shock tower and use a cable isolator to protect it. Try to use a siphon pump when removing power steering fluid, so you do not lose any more than necessary from the reservoir. Lift the vehicle and cut off the hose connecting the power steering fluid supply to the pump's supply fitting which will allow the fluid to escape from the reservoir and the pump. Cover the top of the reservoir with your finger to keep more fluid from spilling out when removing the pump. Later, take out the pressure hose on the pump side and let all remaining power steering fluid drain. Take out the front lock-nut of the tensioner pulley, turn the adjustment bolt so the belt loses its tension and bring out the drive belt from the power steering pump pulley. Through the holes of the pulley's face, touch your wrench to the power steering pump mounting bolts and unscrew them to separate the pump from the mounting bracket. Afterward, get the power steering pump from the engine with its pulley and pull it from the bottom of the engine between the radiator and cradle support. Then, transfer the necessary components from the old pump to the new pump you have installed.
