2002 Chrysler Concorde Timing Cover Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Timing Cover on 2002 Chrysler Concorde?
A: For servicing or repairs on the timing cover, first remove the negative cable from the remote jumper terminal, then take out the upper radiator support crossmember, replace the radiator fan, accessory drive belts, crankshaft vibration damper, power steering pump and accessory drive belt tensioner pulley and bracket. Afterward, undo the nuts attaching the timing cover and lift the cover off. Look at the part and make sure to replace the gasket and seal when needed. For bench-installed front crankshaft seals, put Special Tool 6780-2, Sleeve, over the nose of the crankshaft to help and protect the seal lip. Put a thin layer of Mopar Engine RTV GEN II, measuring 1/8 inch, on the edges that divide the oil pan and cylinder block before you install the timing cover gasket. Snap on the timing cover and its gasket, tighten the M10 cover bolts to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) and the M6 bolts to 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.). Only if the crankshaft oil seal has not been installed already, do so using Special Tool 6780-2 sleeve and installer, then mount the crankshaft vibration damper. Connect the power steering pump to its bracket, fit the A/C belt tensioner to the timing cover and put the generator/power steering drive belt tensioner pulley and its bracket into place. At last, mount the radiator fan, the accessory drive belts, the upper radiator crossmember and attach the negative cable.
