2002 Chrysler Sebring Starter Motor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Starter Motor on 2002 Chrysler Sebring?
A: The first thing to do for servicing or repairing the starter motor is to raise the hood and remove the negative battery cable. First, bring the car up on a jack and take out the electrical connector from the O2 sensor, then remove the O2 sensor from the exhaust manifold. After that, remove the front bolt from the mount and pull out the front mount bracket. Remove the starter cable from the battery, take out the lower starter bolt and get rid of the starter. Don't use a straight screwdriver or bit when starting the bolts or you could crack the starter shell-first join the upper bolt and then the lower one before tightening them. Eliminate the top bolt, link the battery cable to the nut and tighten it with 8.5 Nm. Make sure the heat shield is fixed properly during reinstallation of the front mount bracket and tighten the upper bolt to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.), along with the other. Mount the front manifold, torquing its bolts to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.) and then the O2 sensor, given 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) of torque. After that, raise the vehicle up, disconnect the negative battery cable last and then set the car back down.
