2002 Chrysler Town & Country Power Steering Hose Parts and Q&A
- Q: How to Service and Repair a Power Steering Hose for Pressure Hose on 2002 Chrysler Town & Country?A: Open the reservoir cap for power steering, insert a siphon pump and drain as much fluid as you can out of the line. Lift the vehicle and take out the front emissions vapor canister. After that, remove the bolts holding the hose guides to the suspension cradle crossmember and steel reinforcement, placing a container underneath to catch any leaks. Raise the car, move the power steering gear away, disconnect the pressure hose from the gear's mating pipe, remove the bolt in the engine bracket and loosen the tube nut at the power steering pump. Before installation, take out the old O-rings, wipe the ends of the new hose, the fitting where the pressure flows out and the steering gear port with a clean and lint-free towel. After getting new O-rings, slip one on each end and lubricate them with clean power steering fluid so that you don't bend the tube ends during assembly to prevent leaks. Lift the hose and run it behind the engine, keeping radiation away and avoiding sharp bends, then snap it into the pump pressure outlet fitting without tightening yet. Fasten the routing bracket to the engine, tightening the bolt until you reach 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.) and then tighten the hose tube nut at the pump outlet fitting to 31 Nm (275 in. lbs.). Lead the hose behind the cradle crossmember, then push the hose end into the gear port, but do not tighten it. Attach the hose to the suspension cradle crossmember and steel reinforcement with two routing clamps and bolts, tighten the clamp bolt at the steel reinforcement to 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.) and tighten the other clamp bolt at the cradle crossmember to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.). After that, fasten the hose tube nut at the power steering gear port to 31 Nm (275 in. lbs.), fit back the front emissions vapor canister, lower the vehicle, fill and bleed the power steering system and check for leaks.
