2002 Dodge Dakota Belt Tensioner Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Belt Tensioner on 2002 Dodge Dakota?
A: Before starting the tensioner service, remove the accessory drive belt. Take out the ignition coil from its mounting bracket by removing the two bolts and keeping the mounting bracket attached to the head of the cylinder. Then, loosen one connecting bolt on the tensioner assembly from the bracket and take off the pulley bolt to remove the pulley from the tensioner. Installation should begin by connecting the pulley to the tensioner and tightening the bolt to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.). Set the tensioner assembly on the bracket, align the indexing tab on the back of the tensioner with the slot on the bracket and fasten the nut to 67 Nm (50 ft. lbs.) torque force. Attach back all of the wires to the ignition coil and carefully tighten the bolts that secure the coil to its mount, so as not to harm the coil case. Screw the coil in place, using the hex key to tighten to 11 Nm if you're using nuts and bolts and to 5 Nm if the bracket offers coil mounting holes. After all, put in the drive belt and compare the marks on it with the index shown on the drive.
