2002 Dodge Grand Caravan Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Maintain and Fix Oxygen Sensors on 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan?
A: Before repairing or servicing oxygen sensors, remove the battery and the battery tray. Take out the harness and electrical connector from the speed control servo and detach and remove the entire servo and bracket temporarily. Use a flexible YA8875 socket from Snap-On to pull out the upstream sensor, but before you do, clean its threads using a 18 mm X 1.5 + 6E tap. Should you reuse the original sensor, put a light layer of Loctite 771-64 anti-seize compound on the threads. To disconnect the downstream sensor, disable the vehicle's negative battery, hoist it and disconnect its electrical wires. Erase the sensor just like before and clean the threads using the Snap-On YA8875, while also applying anti-seize material to the new sensor if you are going to reinstall the original one. Once installation begins, make sure the exhaust manifold's threads are clean using the 18 mm X 1.5 + 6E tap, cover the reused sensor threads with anti-seize compound and install the sensor hand-tight, turning it to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.). Connect the plug for the upstream O(2) sensor, reinstall the bracket and next connect the speed control servo's electrical connector and vacuum harness. Place the battery back into its tray and install the tray. For a new downstream sensor, join the sensor directly, fasten until you reach a 27 Nm torque (20 ft. lbs.), attach the electrical connector, bring the car down and then join the negative battery cable.
