2002 Dodge Intrepid Brake Caliper Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Effectively Service and Repair a Brake Caliper on 2002 Dodge Intrepid?
A: Raising the vehicle on jackstands or a hoist, take out the rear wheel and tire from the car before continuing service on the rear brake caliper. Next, go ahead and take out the two caliper assembly to adapter guide pin bolts. To take off the caliper, separate the top from the adapter and lift it over the adapter base. Lift the calipers from the rear strut in the back, so as not to damage the flexible brake hoses and then remove the rear rotor by pulling straight off the wheel mounting studs. When attaching the caliper after purchasing new brake shoes, pull in the caliper piston all the way into the caliper and lubricate the adapter abutments with Mopar Multipurpose Lubricant or an equivalent. Clip the rear rotor onto the hub to make sure it sits straight on top. Ease the brake caliper and shoes down over the rotor onto the adapter without touching or twisting the caliper guide pin bushings. Use an 18 mm (or 0.7 inch) wrench to tighten each of the caliper guide pin bolts to a torque of 22 Nm (192 inch lbs.). After mounting the wheel and tire, adjust the mounting stud bolts in the right sequence to make them half done, then repeat the process to get them to the specified 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) tightness. Next, take the jackstands out or lower the hoist, brake several times to firm up the brake pedal and go out for a test drive to help clean the brakes and heal the brake linings.
