2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Van Tie Rod End Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service the outer tie rod end on 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Van?
A: Before working on the outer tie rod end, raise and support the car. After taking out the cotter pin and retaining nut from the tie-rod end ball stud, connect Puller C-3894-A to the rod end and remove it from the steering knuckle or center link. After that, take out the clamp bolts on the tie-rod sleeve to remove the tied-rod end. The tie-rod end has to be threaded into the end of the sleeve and settled onto the steering knuckle or center link. Hold it in place by installing a nut and tighten until the LD 9/16 ball stud measures 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.) or the HD 5/8 ball stud reaches 102 Nm (75 ft. lbs.). After that, put in a new cotter pin, take away the supports, lower the car and adjust the wheel toe alignment.
