2002 Dodge Ram 2500 Release Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Release Bearing on 2002 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: The first step is to remove the transmission and transfer case if you have them and then remove the clutch housing for vehicles with NV4500. Take off the bearing holder from the release fork and unscrew the bearing from its seat. Check the bearing slide surface on the front retainer of the transmission and change the retainer if it is scored, worn or cracked. Check the stud on the bottom of the leg to make sure it is secure and not malfunctioning and check the fork to ensure it is not bent or damaged. If the fork spring clips look damaged or are bent, replace them. Apply Mopar high temperature bearing grease or an equivalent to the input shaft splines, bearing retainer slide surface, lever pivot ball stud and release lever pivot surface. Set up the release fork and release bearing, securing them with spring clips and put the release fork in place so that the raised portion on its rear faces the slave cylinder location on the transmission. If the clutch housing came out, install it first before putting the transmission and transfer case in place.
