Disconnect the battery negative cables after putting the mechanic tools in position for the rocker arm assembly's service. Remove the cylinder head cover as well as the rocker arm and pedestal fasteners, make a mark that shows the direction they need to go when installing back and pull out the rocker arms and pedestals from the cylinder head. Be mindful that the sockets could come off while you're removing them. Lift the #5 cylinder exhaust and #6 cylinder intake and exhaust push rods using their access holes on the cowl panels and mark them for where they were on the engine. Take off the crossheads from each valve stem and mark each crosshead as you remove it. Spray all surfaces with a cleaning solution, use a brush to scrub anywhere with tough buildup, rinse in hot water and let it dry with compressed air. Examine the oil channels in the rocker arms and pedestals, then blast them clean with compressed air. If the rocker shaft is accessible, remove it, check for cracks and heavy wear and check the socket and ball insert for signs of wear. Take the size measurements of the rocker arm bore and shaft. Look for signs of scoring on the push rod ball and socket and check the tubes around the ball and socket for any cracks. Roll the push rod on a flat surface to find any bends. Make sure to check the mating parts of the crossheads for any signs of cracking or over-wearing. Return the push rods to the places you took them from and make certain they are on their tappets. Add some oil to the tips of the valves and set the crossheads, then get the oil and put it into the crossheads and push rod sockets right before putting back in the rocker arms and pedestals and tightening them to 36 Nm (27 ft. lbs) torque. Adjust the chain or cam vanes, secure the cylinder head cover in place using a reusable seal and hook up the battery negative terminal cables again.
