How to Properly Install a Piston Ring Set on 2002 Dodge Ram 2500?

Before fitting piston rings, calculate the piston diameter and then get the proper ring set and verify which piston rings they are. Put each ring into the cylinder and use a piston to bring it even with the bore at 89.0 mm (3.5 inch). You should measure the distance between piston rings with a feeler gauge. Each gap is listed on the piston ring chart. Mark all the rings with the word TOP or with your supplier's MARK and assemble each with the top facing up. Set the oil expander in the oil control ring groove and then mount the oil control ring with the end gap not lined up with the expander ends. Next, put in the second intermediate piston ring in the second groove and fit the top piston ring into the top groove where the instructions point.
