2002 Dodge Ram 2500 Steering Knuckle Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Steering Knuckle on 2002 Dodge Ram 2500?
A: To begin working on the steering knuckle, support and lift the vehicle, remove the wheel and tire and turn on your emergency brake. Following that, separate the brake caliper and rotor by removing them. With the help of puller C-3894-A, disconnect the end of the tie rod from the knuckle. After that, with mobile removers MD-990635 and C-4150A, separate both ball joints from the knuckle. When installing, put the knuckle on the ball joints and fit the ball joint nuts, tightening the upper ball joint nut to 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.) and add the cotter pin. Torque down the lower ball joint nut to 149 Nm (110 ft. lbs.) and then add the cotter pin. Reconnect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle, gain torque of 108 Nm or 80 ft. lbs. and insert the cotter pin. After that, place the wheel and tire assembly back in position, attach the caliper and brake rotor and lower the vehicle by removing the support.
