2002 Dodge Ram 2500 Van Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the Wheel Bearing(s) on a rear axle with an 8 1/4 configuration on 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 Van?
A: Before fixing an 8 1/4 rear axle, make sure to support and raise the vehicle, then take out the axle shaft. Remove the axle shaft seal from the axle tube by prying at its edge with a pry bar. You can remove the bearing and seal with the bearing removal tool at the same time. After that, take out the axle shaft bearing using Bearing Removal Tool Set 6310 and Adapter Foot 6310-9. Before mounting, clear the axle tube of old sealer and remove any burrs. Lift the axle shaft bearing into place using Installer C-4198 and Handle C-4171 so that the part number shows toward the installer. After that, use Seal C-1782-E and Step D-2239-E to install the new seal, checking that the tool touches the inside of the tube for proper depth. Using axle grease, cover the seal's lip right before you install the axle shaft. Following the installation of the axle shaft, check and fill the gear lubricant and put in the wheel and tire assembly next. Take out the support and slowly lower the vehicle.
