2002 Dodge Ram 3500 Van A/C Hose Parts and Q&A
Q: How to replace the A/C Hose (suction line) on 2002 Dodge Ram 3500 Van?
A: First, disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable, then remove the low pressure cut-off switch from the jumper fitting on the suction line. Drain all refrigerant and take out the flare nut on the suction line from its threaded connection on the suction line jumper. Then, block all refrigerant line openings with plugs or tape once you separate the suction line. If there is a rear heater-A/C unit, first take off the flare nuts from the suction line underbody plumbing and the liquid line underbody plumbing, connect the fittings on the ends of the A/C suction and liquid line and lastly cover all the open A/C line fittings in the car with solid test plugs or tape; all open fittings in the toolbox must also be sealed with tape. After that, remove the screw holding the filter-drier to its bracket, then remove the block fitting screw from the suction line jumper and detach the fitting and put tape or tube caps on all visible refrigerant fittings. Take out the screw fixing the block fitting of the suction line jumper to the expansion valve and separate the fitting from the engine compartment. During installation, remove the tape or plugs from the block fitting on the suction line jumper and on the expansion valve, secure the suction line jumper block fitting to the expansion valve and tighten the screw to 22 Nm (200 in. lbs.). Either remove the tape or plugs from the fittings mentioned and join the filter-drier to the rear of the suction line jumper. Secure the attachment with a screw and tighten it to 13.5 Nm (120 in. lbs.). Put back the screw that holds the filter-drier in place and turn it with 8.5 Nm of force (75 in. lbs.). If there is a rear heater-A/C unit, remove the tape or plugs from the two refrigerant line fittings, attach them with the flare nut to the fitting on the liquid line extension and tighten the joint firmly to 27 Nm (244 in. lbs.). Take away the plugs or tape from the underbody refrigerant line fittings and the suction line fitting, connect the flare at the underbody plumbing suction line to the threaded end of the suction line jumper and tighten to 47 Nm (420 in. lbs.). Remove the tape or plugs from both ends of the suction line, place the flare nut on the suction line onto the suction line jumper fitting and tighten everything to 47 Nm (420 in. lbs.). Put the low pressure cut-off switch into the suction line jumper's fitting, reconnect the negative battery cable, evacuate the system and start filling it with refrigerant.
