2003 Chrysler 300M Shock Absorber Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Disassemble the Rear Shock Absorber Assembly on 2003 Chrysler 300M?
A: Remove the rear strut assembly from your car and mark the coil spring and strut assembly, marking the sides where they appear. Avoid linking the coil spring compressor to the coil sleeve so that you or the coils are not placed in danger. Secure the outside end of the strut assembly into the strut coil spring compressor and attach both coils to the compressor hooks. Put a clamp on the lower portion of the coil spring to keep the strut held and use Special Tool 6864 and deep well socket to hold down the strut shaft nut as you remove it. When finished easing up the coil spring tension, take out both the upper mount assembly, upper spring isolator, dust shield and jounce bumper, as they will all come off together with the dust shield. Let go of the clamp and remove the strut from the coil spring's bottom. Then separate the lower spring isolator linked to the strut coil spring seat. Check for shaft binding, low or no fluid in the pressurized gas, cracks in the jounce bumper, damage to the upper mount and its studs, holes or tears in the dust shield, deterioration of isolators and damage to the coil spring coating. Before releasing the tension on the coil spring, make note of where the end is positioned at the top so you know where to line it up again. If it's necessary to take out the coil spring, back off the compressor drive until it is off, push back the compressor hooks and pull out the coil spring.
