2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser Wheel Bearing Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Wheel Bearing on 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser?
A: Before servicing or repairing the rear wheel bearing, lift the vehicle, unbolt the rear tire assembly and remove the tire. When your vehicle has rear drum brakes, use a No. 2 screwdriver to remove the retaining clips and then the drum. If you have rear disc brakes, remove the caliper guide pin bolts so the caliper is free from the disc brake adapter and put it high with a wire hanger or bungee cord. The brake rotor retaining clips are the thin metal pieces holding the rotor to the rear hub and bearing, so remove those and remove the rotor. Take out the dust cap, undo the retaining nut and take off the hub and bearing from the spindle. Return the hub and bearing assemblies to the spindle and fix them using a new, tightened retaining nut set to a torque of 217 Nm (160 ft. lbs.). Fit the dust cap on the hub and for vehicles with drums, replace the drum. Once the rotor is in place on the cars with rear disc brakes, set the disc brake caliper on top and fasten it using eight caliper guide pin bolts tightened to 22 Newton meters or 192 inch lbs. Afterward, put in the rear tire and wheel assembly, tighten all wheel nuts with a tension of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) and lower the car to the ground.
