2003 Dodge Caravan Drive Belt Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Drive Belt for the A/C Compressor and Generator on 2003 Dodge Caravan?
A: Before working on the A/C compressor/generator belt, bring the car up on a hoist and then remove the drive belt shield. Pay attention not to let the drive belt tensioner spring suddenly, since this could either cause harm to your car or injure someone. Loosen up the belt tension by turning the tensioner clockwise once you have a wrench on the belt tensioner lug. Once the part is off, place the tensioner in its natural neutral state. At the top of the car, open the locking nuts (D) and (F). Afterward, head underneath to free the pivot bolt (E) and the adjusting bolt (G) so that the belt can be removed. Scrape away all foreign particles from the belt pulley grooves and dry off any traces of oil, grease and coolants before installing the drive belt. A worn belt, with visible cords or too much glazing, should be replaced; however, small cracks across the ribbed side are acceptable, whereas parallel cracks indicate a need to replace the belt. Never apply belt dressing or restorer to Poly-V belts. Put the belt on all of the pulleys except the crankshaft one, then press the tensioner clockwise, slide the belt onto the crankshaft pulley and release the tensioner. Make sure that the drive belt goes around every pulley as it should and is fully engaged, then place back the belt shield and lower the vehicle. Apply the belt over the crankshaft and power steering pump pulleys, loosely tighten the fasteners (E) and (F) and finally tighten the adjusting bolt (G). Tighten locking nuts (D) and (F) to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) and the pivot bolt (E) to the same torque.
