2003 Dodge Durango Radiator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Maintain and Fix a Radiator on 2003 Dodge Durango?
A: When working on the radiator, remove the battery negative cable, empty the cooling system and do not open the drain plugs or draincock because doing so while the cylinder is hot is dangerous. Serve the clamps you find in this car using a special clamp tool (number 6094) or the Snap-On clamp tool for them (number HPC-20). Always remember to put on safety glasses when working on them. Separate the radiator's hose clamps as well as the hoses, disconnect the coolant reserve/overflow tank hose and part the washer bottle electrical connector and hose. After that, take out the two upper fan shroud mounting screws and remove the upper fan shroud out of the engine compartment. Should the vehicle have an oil cooler and electric fan, disconnect the lines from the oil cooler and the fan motor. Lift the radiator slightly in the air, using the protection sleeve to prevent the cooling fins from getting damaged. Use a garden hose and canned air on the back of the radiator, with the engine off and cool, to clear out its fins. Ensure the fins on the radiator are not bent or broken, as this situation can cause the engine to overheat. Inspect the plastic end tanks for signs of damage, cracks or leaks and also check the radiator neck for problems or distortion. Install the radiator by resting it on the two isolator pins beneath the tanks which you will then insert into the alignment holes on the radiator's support at the bottom. Install the nuts onto the radiator, tightening them to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.), reattach the transmission oil cooler lines if fitted and join the fan motor connector to the harness. Cover the lower fan shroud and radiator with the upper shroud and connect the retaining screws, next install the radiator hoses and reconnect the coolant reserve/overflow tank hose. After that, attach the battery negative cable, fill the cooling system, turn on the engine and search for leaks.
