2003 Dodge Ram 3500 Oil Filter Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Properly Change an Engine Oil Filter on 2003 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Make sure the engine's water temperature gets to 60 °C (140 °F) before you switch it off to replace the engine oil and filter. To drain the oil, use a container that will fit 14 liters (15 quarts) or more, then take out the oil drain plug. The appearance of oil can inform you if it contains fuel or coolant. Wipe the area around the oil filter head and unscrew the old oil filter to put a new one in. Clean both the pan and the plug's draining hole and make sure the sealing surface and the threads are intact. Insert the drain plug and tighten it so that it reaches 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.) torque. Vehicles fitted with the Cummins Turbo Diesel engine should only use specially formulated high-quality multi-viscosity oil, choosing the correct grade for the type of operation and fill the engine with new oil as necessary. Fire up the engine and leave it running for a little while to inspect the filter and drain plugs for any leaks. Take the car off the engine once it's cool, then wait a little for the oil to return to the pan and measure the oil level again. Be careful when you throw out engine oil after it has been drained from your car.
