2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Oil Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Service and Repair an Oil Filter on 2004 Dodge Ram 3500?
A: Before serving the oil filter, clear the area around the head of the filter and turn the filter cap below from below with a cap filter wrench. Following that, wipe the filter head's gasket so the O-Ring seal comes loose and remove it if it has stuck to the filter head. Before installing, put clean oil into the oil filter element and use the exact same type of oil as what will go in the engine. Apply a light layer of lubricating oil to the place where the filter seals. Be careful not to tighten the nut too much, since this could cause the threads to break or destroy the filter element seal. Set the filter so that it meets the sealing area of the oil filter adapter and then carefully tighten it another 1/2 turn.
