2003 Dodge Sprinter 3500 Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal on 2003 Dodge Sprinter 3500?
A: Before you begin, separate the negative battery cable and disconnect the drive belt to the accessories. Screw on the crank pulley or retaining lock for the crankshaft/ring gear. If the center of the belt pulley/vibration damper is too tight, use a puller to get it off, making certain the puller fits entirely into the belt pulley slots. Look at the running part of the belt pulley to check if it's worn out before you remove the belt pulley/vibration damper, so you don't damage the crankshaft or front crankshaft seal mounting hole. Remove the front crankshaft seal from the timing cover by using an appropriate prying tool. Wipe all sides the engine mates to with an appropriate cleaner to remove any traces of oil or grease. After that, place the front crankshaft seal flat onto the timing cover and install it onto the engine. Attach the belt pulley/vibration damper to its position, free the retaining lock for the crankshaft/ring gear and install the accessory drive belt. Replace the negative battery cable and pour the correct engine oil until it is at the proper level in the crankcase. Be extremely careful around the engine, stay to the sides of the fan, keep your hands from any pulleys or belts and don't wear clothes that could get caught. Ultimately, look for any drips after starting the engine.
