2004 Chrysler Crossfire Drive Shaft Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Drive Shaft on 2004 Chrysler Crossfire?
A: Initially, line up all the flanges on the transmission output, rear axle pinion and propeller shaft by marking their position on each other for correct balance of the driveline. Start by elevating and supporting the vehicle and remove the exhaust system after that. After that, remove the nuts from the center exhaust heat shield and the heat shield, then the bolts for the rear transmission tunnel support bracket and the bracket. First, use a jack stand to help with support and after that remove all the bolts from the transmission mount and the transmission crossmember. Unscrew the three shaft bolts and pull away the rear propeller shaft. Next, unscrew the three bolts from the front propeller shaft in the transmission and remove the shaft from the boat. Get rid of the bearing bracket bolts and remove the propeller shaft from the car. To install the driveshaft, centre the marks on the propeller shaft flanges with the output flange of the transmission and the pinion on the rear axle. Replace all nuts and bolts on the driveshaft of the vehicle. Bring the propeller shaft into the vehicle and hold it up with a jack stand. Put the center bearing bracket in position and attach it with bolts, tightening all of them until they reach 30 Nm. Connect the rear propeller shaft to the rear axle pinion flange and hold it with three bolts tightened to 60 Nm. Secure the front propeller shaft to the transmissions output flange using three bolts that have been tightened to 60 Nm. Replace the transmission tunnel support bracket and fasten its bolts to 20 Nm. Place the transmission crossmember and mount and then tie down both the transmission mount bolts to 45 Nm and the crossmember bolts to 45 Nm. Put the exhaust heat shield behind the rear muffler, then reattach the nuts and secure them to 10 Nm. Next, get rid of the jack stand for the transmission, attach the exhaust again and drop the car.
