2004 Chrysler Town & Country Camshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service a Camshaft Position Sensor on 2004 Chrysler Town & Country?
A: Begin by separating the negative battery terminal to work on the Camshaft Position Sensor. Unfasten the air box cover from the vehicle, unscrew the inlet tube and remove the camshaft position sensor electrical connector. Remove the bolt of the sensor to loosen it, move the sensor about the block so that you can pull it away and then extract it from the chain case cover without touching the wire. Slightly tapping the top of the sensor might assist you if the O-ring makes it tough to clean the light sensor. When you install the sensor again, remove the old build up from its face and replace it with a new builder's spacer. Look for damage in the O-ring and change it if it has been damaged. Be sure the paper spacer is in place on the face and the O-ring is set into the groove of the sensor you are applying. Drop a bit of clean engine oil onto the O-ring before adding the sensor, then place it into the chain case cover and turn it into the correct position. Lay the sensor onto the camshaft gear so that the bar touches it, hold it in place and install and tighten the retaining bolt until you reach a torque of 14 Nm (125 in. lbs.). Connect the electrical wire of the camshaft position sensor to the harness, place the air box cover and inlet hose and then attach the negative battery cable.
