- Q: How to Service and Repair a Shift Cable for the 40TE Gear System on 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan?A: Before servicing or repairing the 40TE gear shift cable, make sure you disconnect the battery and then remove the battery shield and the battery. Take out the speed control servo and place it somewhere where it doesn't get in your way. Remove the gear shift cable from the lever at the manual valve and also from the top mounting bracket. After that, take out the instrument panel lower silencer and the knee bolster. Afterwards, disconnect the gear shift cable from the gear shift lever and get rid of it from the column bracket. After that, unclip the grommet from the dash panel and pull the gear shift cable out from the inside of the vehicle.
