2004 Dodge Intrepid Parking Brake Cable Parts and Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair an Intermediate Parking Brake Cable on 2004 Dodge Intrepid?
A: Raise the vehicle on a frame contact hoist or make sure it is properly held up on jackstands to start servicing the intermediate parking brake cable. After loosening the nut of the tensioner adjuster, remove the cable connector between the front and intermediate cables. Unbolt the intermediate cable retainer from the body torque box and pull the intermediate cable out of the box. Cut the connector from the intermediate cable beside the park brake cable and then take out the intermediate cable from the bracket, using a 1/2 inch box wrench. With the clip latch released above the left rear retainer on the crossmember, take out the intermediate park brake cable. For installing, put the intermediate park brake cable so that it runs between the rear suspension crossmember and frame rail, crossing the other two cables and brake tubes underneath. Slide the intermediate cable into the tensioner and clip the bracket while putting back the retainer clip under the left side of the crossmember. Next, attach the midsize cable to the right back rear cable connector and send the midsize cable through the hole in the body torque box, fixing it with its bolt. Afterward, connect the intermediate cable to the front cable connector, set the parking brake and bring the car down.
